Chemical Conversion Coatings at ECO Finishing
ECO Finishing provides Chemical Conversion coatings, a process that is intended specifically for
components of military weapon systems to provide maximum corrosion resistance and is not intended
as a general purpose coating for commercial and decorative applications. Our Chemical Conversion
Coating processes are compliant with MIL-DTL-5541 F, which covers the requirements for two classes
of coatings that are formed by the reaction of chemicals with the surfaces of aluminum and aluminum
Further, there are two types of Chemical Conversion Coatings:
- Class IA Chemical Conversion Coatings are intended to provide corrosion prevention when left
unpainted and to improve adhesion of paint finish systems on aluminum and aluminum alloys.
May be used on tanks, tubing and component structures where paint finishes are required for
the interior surfaces but not the exterior surfaces.
- Class III Chemical Conversion Coatings are intended for use as a corrosion preventative film or in
electrical and electronic applications where lower resistant contacts (relative to Class IA coatings
and anodic coatings in accordance with MIL-A-8625) are required. Class III coatings are thinner
and more susceptible to corrosion but will improve adhesion of paint systems on aluminum and
Chemical Conversion Coatings produce finishes that range in color from clear to iridescent yellow or
- Type I containing hexavalent chromium
- Type II containing no hexavalent chromium and are always clear
With over 60,000 sq ft of clean, well lit space, ECO Finishing has a streamlined plating process that
